Textile Exchange currently requires all sites to be certified through to the seller in the last business-to-business transaction in order to be allowed to label with the relevant standard logo; generally, the last stage to be certified is the garment manufacturer or the brand. Therefore, if you are a brand that sells products to retailers, then you must be certified if you want to make a product-related claim/label. Please also note that all requests for logo use and subsequent approval of artwork must go through your certification body.

IMPORTANT NOTE: By July 1, 2022 all brands are required to be certified to the applicable standard in order to make product-related claims/label. See the the Quick Guide to Product Labeling and CCS 3.0 for more details: https://textileexchange.org/documents/quick-guide-to-product-labeling-and-ccs-3-0/

For more guidance, please read the Standards Claims Policy: https://textileexchange.org/documents/standards-claims-policy/

Component labelling is allowed also as long as the minimum content percentage is met and it is clear to the consumer what the claim is on. You are allowed to use the logo, however it would need to be clear to the consumer which component the claim is on. With only the logo displayed, the consumer would not know the component the claim is on and it would be misleading. The percentages are based on the overall weight of certified components in the good and calculations do not generally include trims or accessories, unless they are also certified.

Product-related claims are used to show that a product or category of products are certified or contain certified content and are linked to an assurance process. Special care must be taken to ensure they are true, accurate, and not misleading.

Product-related claims may appear on-or-off product; examples include any of the below places where the standard may be mentioned:

  • hangtags
  • clothing/care labels
  • online product descriptions
  • catalogue product descriptions
  • point-of sale marketing where the claim is connected to a specific product

If you do not have full chain of custody and cannot make a product-related claim, you may still choose to make claims from the three other claims categories described in the Standards Claims Policy.

General Marketing – Corporate Commitment/Progress Claims

As long as you register your commitment to one or more of our standards, you may make claims talking about your commitment or the progress you’ve made working towards it. See the the registration webpage for more details: https://textileexchange.org/standards/commitment-registration-form/

Agreement-Based Claims

Have you participated in one of our standards international working groups (IWGs)? Have you funded an on-the-ground implementation or pilot project? If so, you may make customized claims based on what’s described in the written contract you have signed with Textile Exchange.

Informational Statements

Informational statements are ready to use messages that describe a relevant standard. You make use these statements, as outlined in the Standards Claims Policy, to talk about what our standards do and their purpose.

Once CCS 3.0 is mandatory, direct suppliers will no longer be able to submit claim approval applications with their CB. Instead, brands will be required to do so for final product labeling. Suppliers may still attach the approved label/hangtag to the product on behalf of the brands. It is not required for a certified supplier to label their product in a B2B transaction, but they may still use the logo for business to business (B2B) marketing and claims and will need to have those claims approved by their CBs.
